SOCIAL ACTION

Delta Sigma Theta has been committed to service through social action since our founding in 1913. Our 22 Founders participated in the Suffrage March of 1913, just two months after establishing the Sorority, and our members have been at the forefront of social and political struggles ever since.

The Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is engaged in a variety of social action activities focused on enacting laws and polices to sustain and expand the rights and privileges of citizenship to all people and to protect the most vulnerable amongst us.
Our Social Action Activities Include:

-
Research and advocacy of critical issues
-
Monitoring legislation at national, state, and local levels
-
Voter registration, education, and mobilization
-
Educating the public on public policy issues
-
Encourage Deltas to run for elected office
-
Active engagement in the legislative, executive, judicial and regulatory affairs of the nation
-
Promoting enlightened citizenship by providing fact-based information to elected officials and voters
Unmute Yourself: Why Not Voting Still Sends a Message is a dynamic Social Action panel discussion designed to spark honest dialogue, critical reflection, and civic responsibility within our community. This timely conversation centers the African American experience and examines the impact of disengagement, voter suppression, and silence in the democratic process—while affirming the power of informed participation and collective voice.

Hosted as part of the Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter’s 80th Charter Anniversary kickoff, this event invites community members to engage with thought leaders and advocates who will challenge assumptions, elevate lived experiences, and encourage meaningful action beyond the ballot box.
Whether registering to vote, understanding policy implications, or mobilizing others, Unmute Yourself reminds us that choosing not to vote is still a choice—and it sends a message.
Join us on January 27, 2026, from 6–8 p.m. at the Jessie Ball duPont Center as we amplify voices, promote voter awareness, and reaffirm our commitment to social justice, equity, and political empowerment in the Black community.

For over 111 years, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated has been on the frontlines of voter advocacy and protection. One of the first actions of our 22 Founders was to stand with women for the right to vote. We have proudly extended this legacy into the 21st century by boldly standing for the rights of citizens to freely participate in the electoral process at all levels, actively educating and empowering communities to vote, and protecting those rights when challenged.
The Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated is committed to using our collective voices to remind our communities of the necessary steps to fully engage in the electoral process.

Many of our ancestors who came before us sacrificed and died for us to have the right to vote. We cannot and should not take this privilege lightly. Let’s make a difference on behalf of the good of our families, our communities and our country.
